Biography

Peter Dutton is the Federal Member for Dickson and Leader of the Liberal Party.
Prior to his election in 2001 Peter served as a Queensland Police Officer. He worked in the National Crime Authority and Drug and Sex Offenders’ Squads.
Peter was appointed to the Ministry by Prime Minister John Howard in 2004. In January 2006, he was promoted to Assistant Treasurer.
Following the 2007 election, Peter served as Shadow Minister for Finance, Competition Policy and Deregulation, and Shadow Minister for Health and Ageing.
Most recently, Peter served as Minister for Defence delivering record funding and securing the vital equipment our service personnel need to keep our country safe.
He was a member of the National Security Committee of Cabinet and served on the Expenditure Review Committee and leadership teams.
Previously, he served as Home Affairs Minister; Minister for Immigration and Border Protection and Minister for Health and Minister for Sport.
Peter is married to Kirilly and is the proud father of Rebecca, Harry and Tom and lives in Dayboro in the Dickson electorate.
